NUESTRAS CREENCIAS

 

Los Metodistas Unidos comparten una herencia común con todos los cristianos. Según nuestra declaración fundacional de la creencia en el libro de la disciplina, compartimos las afirmaciones básicas siguientes en común con todas las comunidades cristianas:

Trinidad

Describimos a Dios en tres personas. El padre, el hijo, y el Espíritu Santo son de uso general referir a la naturaleza triple de Dios. Utilizamos a veces otros términos, tales como creador, redentor, y sustainer.

Dios

  • Creemos en un Dios, que creó el mundo y todo el que está en Él.
  • Creemos que Dios es soberano; es decir, Dios reina el universo.
  • Creemos que Dios es amoroso. Podemos experimentar el amor y la gracia de Dios.

Jesús

  • Creemos que Jesús era humano. Él vivió como hombre y murió cuando lo crucificaron.
  • Creemos que Jesús es divino. Él es el Hijo de Dios.
  • Creemos que Dios levantó a Jesús de los muertos y que  el Cristo resuscitado vive hoy. (Cristo y Mesías significan la mismo cosa-Dios ungido.)
  • Creemos que Jesús es nuestro salvador. En Cristo recibimos vida abundante y el perdón de pecados.
  • Creemos que Jesús es nuestro Señor y que somos llamados para modelar nuestras vidas siguiendo su ejemplo.

El Espíritu Santo

  • Creemos que el Espíritu Santo es Dios con nosotros.
  • Creemos que el Espíritu Santo nos conforta cuando estamos en necesidad y nos condena cuando nos perdemos de Dios.
  • Creemos que el Espíritu Santo nos despierta a la voluntad de Dios y nos autoriza para vivir obediente.

Seres humanos

  • Creemos que Dios creó a seres humanos en la imagen de Dios.
  • Creemos que los seres humanos pueden elegir aceptar o rechazar una relación con Dios.
  • Creemos que todos los seres humanos necesitan estar en una relación con Dios para ser completados.

La Iglesia

  • Creemos que la iglesia es el cuerpo de Cristo, una extensión de la vida y del ministerio de Cristo en el mundo hoy.
  • Creemos que la misión de la iglesia es hacer a discípulos del Jesucristo.
  • Creemos que la iglesia es “la comunión de santos,” a comunidad compuesta de todos más allá, de presente, y de los discípulos de Cristo futuros.
  • Creemos que la iglesia está llamada para adorar a Dios y para apoyar a los que participen en su vida mientras que crecen en la fe.

La Biblia

  • Creemos que la Biblia es Palabra de Dios.
  • Creemos que la Biblia es la autoridad primaria para nuestra fe y práctica.
  • Creemos que los Cristianos necesitan saber y estudiar el Antiguo Testamento y el Nuevo Testamento (las escrituras hebreas y las escrituras Cristianas).

El Reinado de Dios

  • Creemos que el reino o el reinado de Dios es una realidad actual y esperanza futura.
  • Creemos que dondequiera que se haga la voluntad de Dios, el reino o el reinado de Dios está presente. Estaba presente en el ministerio de Jesús, y está también presente en nuestro mundo donde las personas y las comunidades experimentan la reconciliación, la restauración, y sanidad.
  • Creemos eso aunque el cumplimiento del reino de Dios--la restauración completa de la creación--está todavía  por venir.
  • Creemos que la iglesia está llamada para ser testigos de lo que será el Reino de Dios y ser participante en su cumplimiento.
  • Creemos que el Reino de Dios es personal y social. en el aspecto personal mostramos el Reino de Dios a medida que se transforman nuestros corazones y mentes y somos mas como Él. En el aspecto social, la visión de Dios para el Reino incluye la restauración y la transformación de toda la creación.

Sacramentos

Con muchos otros Protestantes, reconocemos los dos sacramentos en los cuales Cristo mismo participó: La Santa Cena (comunión) y del Bautismo.

Bautismo

  • Por medio del bautismo somos unidos con la iglesia y con los Cristianos en todo el mundo.
  • El bautismo es un símbolo de la nueva vida y una muestra del amor de Dios y perdón de nuestros pecados
  • Las personas de cualquier edad pueden ser bautizadas.
  • Bautizamos asperción, la inmersión o vertiendo.
  • Una persona recibe el sacramento del bautismo solamente una vez en su vida.
  • La Santa Cena del Señor consiste del pan y del vino que simboliza el cuerpo y la sangre de Cristo.
  • La Santa Cena del Señor recuerda la vida, la muerte y la resurrección de Jesús y celebra la unidad de todos los miembros de la familia de Dios.
  • Compartiendo esta cena, damos las gracias por el sacrificio de Cristo y somos alimentados y autorizados para entrar el mundo en la misión y el ministerio.
  • Practicamos la " Mesa Abierta, " acogiendo  a todos que amen a Cristo, se arrepienten de sus pecados, e buscan vivir en paz el uno con el otro. 

 

La gracia domina nuestra entendimiento de la fe y la vida cristiana. 

 

La gracia es la acción inmerecida y amorosa de Dios en la existencia humana mediante el Espiritu Santo que está siempre presente. Aunque la gracia de Dios es indivisible, ésta precedea la salvación como gracia previniente, luego continúa como gracia justificadora y culmina como gracia santificadora.

    a. Gracia Previniente:  Esta gracia aviva nuestro primer deseo de agradar a Dios y nuestra primera convicción, ligera y transitoria de haber pecado contra Dios.  Nos da una ansia de ser librados del pecado y de la muerte y nos mueve hacia el arrepentimiento y la fe.

    b. Gracia Justificadora: Creemos que Dios alcanza al creyente arrepentido con su gracia justificadora y su amor que le acepta y perdona.  Este es el nuevo nacimiento, frecuentemente se conoce como conversión cuyo cambiio puede ser dramático o gradual y cumulativo.

    c. Gracia Santificadora:   Mediante el poder del Espiritu Santo, se nos capacita para crecer en el conocimiento y el amor de Dios y en el amor a nuestro prójimo.  Juan Wesley describió esto como el corazón habitualmente lleno de amor a Dios y al prójimo y tener la mente de Cristo y anda como él anduvo.

OUR BELIEFS

Trinity

We describe God in three persons. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are commonly used to refer to the threefold nature of God. Sometimes we use other terms, such as Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.

God

  • We believe in one God, who created the world and all that is in it.
  • We believe that God is sovereign; that is, God is the ruler of the universe.
  • We believe that God is loving. We can experience God’s love and grace.

Jesus

  • We believe that Jesus was human. He lived as a man and died when he was crucified.
  • We believe that Jesus is divine. He is the Son of God.
  • We believe that God raised Jesus from the dead and that the risen Christ lives today. (Christ and messiah mean the same thing—God’s anointed.)
  • We believe that Jesus is our Savior. In Christ we receive abundant life and forgiveness of sins.
  • We believe that Jesus is our Lord and that we are called to pattern our lives after his.

The Holy Spirit

  • We believe that the Holy Spirit is God with us.
  • We believe that the Holy Spirit comforts us when we are in need and convicts us when we stray from God.
  • We believe that the Holy Spirit awakens us to God’s will and empowers us to live obediently.

Human Beings

  • We believe that God created human beings in God’s image.
  • We believe that humans can choose to accept or reject a relationship with God.
  • We believe that all humans need to be in relationship with God in order to be fully human.

The Church

  • We believe that the church is the body of Christ, an extension of Christ’s life and ministry in the world today.
  • We believe that the mission of the church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • We believe that the church is “the communion of saints,” a community made up of all past, present, and future disciples of Christ.
  • We believe that the church is called to worship God and to support those who participate in its life as they grow in faith.

The Bible

  • We believe that the Bible is God’s Word.
  • We believe that the Bible is the primary authority for our faith and practice.
  • We believe that Christians need to know and study the Old Testament and the New Testament (the Hebrew Scriptures and the Christian Scriptures).

The Reign of God

  • We believe that the kingdom or reign of God is both a present reality and future hope.
  • We believe that wherever God's will is done, the kingdom or reign of God is present. It was present in Jesus' ministry, and it is also present in our world whenever persons and communities experience reconciliation, restoration, and healing.
  • We believe that although the fulfillment of God's kingdom--the complete restoration of creation--is still to come.
  • We believe that the church is called to be both witness to the vision of what God's kingdom will be like and a participant in helping to bring it to completion.
  • We believe that the reign of God is both personal and social. Personally, we display the kingdom of God as our hearts and minds are transformed and we become more Christ-like. Socially, God's vision for the kingdom includes the restoration and transformation of all of creation.

Sacraments

With many other Protestants, we recognize the two sacraments in which Christ himself participated: Baptism and the Lord's Supper.

Baptism

  • Through baptism we are joined with the church and with Christians everywhere.
  • Baptism is a symbol of new life and a sign of God's love and forgiveness of our sins.
  • Persons of any age can be baptized.
  • We baptize by sprinkling, immersion or pouring.
  • A person receives the sacrament of baptism only once in his or her life.

The Lord's Supper (Communion, Eucharist)

  • The Lord's Supper is a holy meal of bread and wine that symbolizes the body and blood of Christ.
  • The Lord's Supper recalls the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and celebrates the unity of all the members of God's family.
  • By sharing this meal, we give thanks for Christ's sacrifice and are nourished and empowered to go into the world in mission and ministry.
  • We practice "open Communion," welcoming all who love Christ, repent of their sin, and seek to live in peace with one another.
