Biography:
Luis was born and raised in Cuba. At a very early age he showed interest for sports. He was particularly inclined towards baseball, but his mother hated the sport. At five year's old his mother put him in a swimming team. He tried but his passion was diverted somewhere else. He would go to the swim meets and sneak to the baseball fields to watch the other kids play. Eventually his mother took him out of swimming because he was the worst swimmer the coach had ever seen. One day his step-father noticed he was being bullied at school so he made him join boxing. He did good there, but again, he was inclined to something else. He noticed the Tae-Kwon-Do team practiced and he joined them instead. He was 7 years old at this time. After that came Jujitsu and Muay Thai.
When he started junior high, he met again with his passion---baseball. He was old enough to decide for himself this time, so he joined the school baseball team. His carrer was shortly interrupted when at the age of 15 he was taken to jail as a political prisoner for anti-communist propaganda. He was released at 18. He left the country in a rustic raft and made his way to the USA. Once in the USA, he finished his last year of High School very much out of age. He convinced the High School Coach to let him play because it was his only chance at getting a sponsorship. Because he was a rather small body type person, the coach let him play. He was accepted in University of Miami to play as Miami Hurricane.
While in Miami, he worked his way to the starter second baseman position and led the team in batting average and OBP. He is also a receipient of a CWS Championship against the NOLES. In his senior year, he was put to cover the outfield and it led to a serious shoulder injury that retired him from baseball. At this time, Milwaukee Brewers, Minnessota Twins, and Oakland A's were interested in him. He joined the military and played in amateur softball leagues in Texas and Montana. When he wsa transfered to New Jersey and started to attend the UMC Fuente de Amor, he joined the church softball team at the time coached by Juan Escolarte. In the year 2007, he took charge of the team as Athletic Minister and the Disciples were born for the glory of Jesus.
He now recides in Pemberton, NJ and soon he will be moving to Lancaster, NJ to pursue his education as a Pastor and continue to drive the Disciples Softball Team and the Fellowship League anywhere Jesus leads him. He is a proud father of a handsome boy, Kevin and he is also engaged to Yanisse Silva (Pitching Coach). They will be soon married December 31st, 2007 by the grace of God.
