DVD Edition: Horton Hears a  Who!

Intro: Un elefante llamado Horton escucha ruidos y voces de una particula de polvo y cree que en ella hay todo un mundo que no puede ver y decide creer y salvar a este mundo llamado Who-ville.  A su vez es dificil para aquellos en Who ville creer que su mundo y su superviviencia están en las manos de un ser que no pueden ver.

1.    Un verdadero Cristiano defiende a los mas débiles.
a.    la vida es sagrada y es un regalo de Dios.  La canguro le dice a su hijo Rudy y a Horton: “Si no lo puedes ver, no lo puedes oir or sentirlo, entonces no existe.”  Este es un argumento dado por aquellos que favorecen el aborto, y Horton responde diceiendo que una persona es una persona no importa cuan peque˜ã sea.  All life is sacred and is a gift of God.  Kangaroo says to her son Rudy and to Horton – “If you can’t see it, hear it, or feel it, it doesn’t exist”. That is the argument made by pro-choice people all the time and as Horton points out repeatedly, “A person’s a person, no matter how small.”
b.    ¿A quienes defendería Cristo si estuviera fisicamente aquí?  Aquellos que no se pueden defender.  Nuestro mundo sería mejor si enseñaramos a nuestros niños este concepto.  Who would Jesus defend?  People who are not in the position to defend themselves. Our world would be a little nicer place if we could teach our children this important principle.
c.    Esa es la esencia de que “el Reino de Dios se ha acercado”  ¿Qué es el Reino de Dios si no es uno de justicia y salvación?  Uno que crece como la semilla de mostaza.  This is the essence of the fact that the Kingdom of God is here.  What is the Kingdom of God if it is not one of justice and  salvation?  God’s kingdom grows like a mustard seed.
d.    Requiere acción, y a veces en contra de nuestras familias y autoridad: Hacia el final de la película, el bebé canguro sale del bolsillo de su mamá en contra de su autoridad para salvar los habitantes de Whoville.  Es cierto que no queremos que nuestros hijos nos desafíen, hay veces que hay que ir en contra de la autoridad si la misma conflije con la moral divina. Lea Mateo 10:34-36  hay vences que debemos seguir a Dios aunque eso vaya en contra de los deseos de nuestros familiares y autoridad.  Towards the end of the movie, Kangaroo’s son leaves the pouch against his mother’s authority to save the people of Who-ville. Although, I want don’t want my children to rebel against me or authority, I want them to understand that sometimes to do the right thing, you have to go against what everyone, including those in authority have said. Jesus said in Matthew 10:34-36: “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.” Sometimes to follow God means turning against our families and authority.

2.    Un verdadero Cristiano cree en lo que no ve
a.    The concept of believing in something you cannot see is also a theme in this movie. EL alcalde sabe que hay algo mayor que aguanta la flor.  El coloca su fe en Horton para llevarlos a salvo.  Los niños y las personas a veces no entienden a Dios porque no le ven y se les hace difícil entender que hay algo mayor que nosotros en el universo.  Esta película nos ayuda a explicar este concepto.  The Mayor knows that something bigger is holding the clover. He places his faith in Horton to get them to safety. Children do not always understand God because they cannot see him. They don’t grasp that something bigger than us is out there. This movie can help explain that concept.
b.    San Agustin dijo:  “La fe es creer lo que no se ve, la recompensa de la fe es ver lo que crees.”  St. Augustine said:  Faith is believing in what we don’t see and the rewrd of faith is to see what you believe”
c.    Revelación general / General revelation: Romanos / Romans 1:19-22  Dios se revela a todos através de la naturaleza igual que conocemos un artista por su trabajo.  God reveals himself thru nature like we can know an artist by his work.
d.    Somos justificados por la fe:  Romanos 3:22-26  We are justified by faith.  Romans 3:22-26

3.    Un verdadero cristiano perdona
a.    Hay una maravilloosa escena de perdón.  La canguro dirige una crusada en contra de Horton através de toda la película y al final, el va hacia ella y le regala una galleta.  En la Biblia Cristo es nuestro ejemplo de perdón cuando el dice en Lucas 23: 34 “padre perdónalos porque no saben lo que hacen.”  Horton entiende que el verdadero perdón es aquel que le ofrecemos a los que nos hacen daño.  There is also a wonderful scene of forgiveness. Kangaroo led a crusade against Horton the entire movie and in the end, he goes to her and offers her a cookie. In the Bible, Jesus is our example of true forgiveness. In Luke 23:34, He says “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Horton understands true forgiveness is forgiving those who have done the greatest harm to you.
